Laboratory

To understand the reactions that chemical species undergo in the atmosphere it is useful to study the reactions in the laboratory under the appropriate conditions. Laboratory studies are also useful for investigating the formation processes of particles that occur in the atmosphere, or for studying processes that may occur on surfaces that exist in the atmosphere, such as ice. For the study of gas-phase reactions we use two systems: a pulsed laser photolysis / laser induced fluorescence system and a fast flow tube. For the particle studies a photo-chemical flow reactor is used.
